Inflation Purchasing Power Calculator
Compound a constant inflation rate and nominal wage rate, then compare future nominal and real values.
Inputs
Result
Future cost of today's basket—
Future wage in today's money—
Cumulative real wage growth—
Real purchasing-power change—
Calculation
Future basket cost = initial amount × (1 + inflation rate)years. Future nominal wage proxy = initial amount × (1 + wage growth)years. Real value divides the nominal result by the compounded price factor.
The tool assumes both annual rates remain constant and compound once per year. It is a scenario calculator, not a forecast. A CPI rate describes a representative basket, not every household's experienced inflation.
Check case
With both rates at 0%, every result remains equal to the starting amount. A rate of −100% is rejected because the compounding denominator becomes zero.
