Model definition
The simulator uses two invented linear equations: demand price = 100 + demand shift − (0.8/response) × quantity; supply price = 20 − supply shift + (0.8/response) × quantity. Results are unitless teaching indexes, not market estimates.
- A positive demand shift raises equilibrium price and quantity in this model.
- A positive supply shift moves supply outward, lowering price and raising quantity.
- A binding ceiling creates quantity demanded above quantity supplied; a floor reverses the gap.
- Ceiling and floor should be tested separately. If both are selected, the ceiling scenario is applied.
Real markets may have nonlinear curves, rationing, inventories, quality change, expectations, taxes, market power, and adjustment over time.
