Definition and units
World Bank indicator NY.GDP.MKTP.KD.ZG is annual percentage growth of GDP at market prices based on constant local currency. It is a rate of change, not the level of GDP and not GDP per person.
Level: Compare annual percentage changes in the same year.
Direction: A negative value means real GDP contracted from the prior year.
Availability: The request covers the latest 20 calendar years, but publication lags and revisions mean the newest returned year may differ by economy.
What this indicator cannot tell you
Real GDP growth does not reveal output per person, household distribution, unpaid work, environmental cost or why growth changed. Cross-country revisions and national accounting methods also matter.
Try it yourself
Use the actual years shown in the cards. Write a 120-word brief with one turning point, one comparison and one limitation; do not call a difference causal without additional evidence.
Source and retrieval
The chart requests the World Bank API when the page loads; values can change after revisions and no local snapshot is stored. See the API response example, indicator page, and metadata definition. Record your access date when citing values.
